Oxford County council has appointed Larry McCabe as Chief Administrative Officer on an interim basis, starting on May 4,2020.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County council has appointed Larry McCabe as Chief Administrative Officer starting on May 4,2020.
McCabe will fill the role left vacant by the retiring CAO Peter Crockett. This appointment is only temporary, as the County has started a search for a full time replacement. McCabe has over 40 years of experience in the municipal sector and has held governance roles with the Goderich Public Utilities Commission, West Coast Huron Energy, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Ontario Small Urban Municipalities, and the Canadian Council for Public Private Partnerships. McCabe served as CAO of the Town of Goderich when it was struck by an F3 tornado in 2011, playing a central role in the Town’s emergency response coordination.
Warden Larry Martin says they will lean on McCabe's experience during this very challenging time.
"Larry joins the County as interim CAO at an extraordinary and challenging time, but with a range of knowledge and experience that brings great value as we navigate the months ahead."
Incoming Interim CAO Larry McCabe says he is excited to get to work.
"Oxford County offers a culture of innovation, integrity and partnership, an environment that certainly appealed to me and that will serve the County well in its recruitment for a permanent CAO. I look forward to working with Council, the senior management team, staff and our community partners over the coming months."
McCabe holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University and is an accredited Municipal Clerk/Treasurer. You can listen to an interview with him below as he explains his role in working with County council during a very difficult time in our history.
