Oxford County has taken the first step towards appealing the decision to allow Carmeuse Lime to put industrial sewage into the West Quarry Lake.
Oxford County has submitted an application to appeal the discussion to allow industrial sewage disposal at West Quarry Lake.
C-A-O for Oxford County Peter Crocket says if they are granted the right to appeal the Environmental Compliance Approval the case would then be put before Ontario's Environmental Review Board.
"The county has some serious concerns about an approval For Carmeuse to use the West Quarry Lake as a settling pond - a settling basin. We don't believe it's right, we believe there's environmental issues, environmental risks, that there is aquatic habitat in the lake, man made or otherwise. It's a lake, it's a body of water and quite frankly it needs to be protected."
Crocket adds they have heard an overwhelming amount of support for the appeal from residents.
"We've consulted our legal council about what our options might be concluded that an appeal is a logical first step in this whole process and our legal counsel has been working with the communities legal counsel. They've got the Canadian Environmental Law Association, I believe, has filed an appeal on behalf of the community as well."
The Canadian Environmental Law Association is also throwing their hat in. Crocket tells us they have also filed an appeal on behalf of the community.
