Woodstock Police are reminding motorists to be alert for pedestrians and cyclists as we start to enjoy the warm Spring weather.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police reminding motorists to be alert for pedestrians and cyclists as we start to enjoy the warm Spring weather.

With social distancing measures still in place, we are seeing more and more people getting outside to soak up some sun. Many families are going for walks, bike rides, skateboarding, and roller blading to help release stress and anxiety or to just get out and get moving.

Police would like to remind anyone participating in these outdoor activities to abide by proper social distancing by staying at least 2 meters apart from others and in groups of 5 people or less.

Safety Tips:

- Ensure helmets fit properly – use the 2V1 rule. The helmet should rest the width of two fingers above the eyebrows, the straps should make a clear V shape framing each ear and the chin strap should be tight enough to fit just one finger between the chin and the strap.

- Encourage children to wear elbow, knee and wrist guards

- Climb off the bike/scooter/skateboard/etc. and walk with it when crossing the road

- Be aware of pedestrians walking on the side walk

- There may be reduced traffic on the roads but it is still very important to pay attention when riding on or near the road

- Make eye contact with drivers to before crossing to ensure they see you and your intentions to cross the road.

- If you are walking and there is no side walk, walk as far over to the edge of the road as possible against the flow of traffic.
