The people have spoken and they love the Hawksbill painting from a Burgessville artist.
WOODSTOCK - For the second year in a row a painter from Burgessville has won the People's Choice Award for Visual Elements.
Jamie Dickson won the award at the Annual Juried Exhibition hosted by the Woodstock Art Gallery, Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre and the Tillsonburg Station Arts Centre.
Deb Beard says Dickson's painting had all of the elements they were looking for.
“The composition of Hawksbill has an amazing perspective by defining light refraction, movement and colour [that enables the viewer] to almost feel the turtle navigate through warm, clear, southern waters.”
Pat Gibson from Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre shares says they were really impressed with all of the submissions at the Juried Exhibition.
“We celebrate all the artists whose diverse works were selected for Visual Elements 60 Juried Exhibition and congratulate those receiving Jurors’ Choice Awards. It has been a special experience to work on this partnership with Woodstock Art Gallery and Station Arts Centre, Tillsonburg. A special congratulations to Jamie Dickson on receiving the People’s Choice Award for his very deserving painting, Hawksbill.”
Woodstock Art Gallery Curator Mary Reid noted it was great to see all three organizations working together for this show.
“This was the first time all three organizations have come together and I am delighted we were able to do so to celebrate this truly important milestone. Jamie Dickson is most deserving of this award, which he has now won two times in a row. His work certainly holds the power to captivate the imagination of many of us.”
Hawksbill will be on display at the Tillsonburg Arts Centre until the 22nd. The closing reception for the Visual Elements 60: Annual Juried Exhibition and our 8th Annual 50/50 Exhibition and Sale is happening on October 13th at the Woodstock Art Gallery starting at 2pm.
