OXFORD COUNTY - A cyclist is facing charges after crashing into a transport truck while on his cell phone.
The incident happened around 8:00 a.m. yesterday at Foldens Line in South West Oxford.
Police say the 39 year old driver of the transport truck was approaching the intersection of Foldens Line and Karn Road when the bicyclist collided with the truck.
Oxford OPP have charged 20 year old Karl Hawkins of Woodstock with failing to yield to traffic. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says this situation could have ended tragically.
"The OPP would like to thank the concerned members of the public that stopped to assist the injured cyclist. This is a reminder for everyone to put their technology away so they can focus their attention on the task at hand. This bicyclist was extremely lucky to have only suffered minor injuries."
