Three people from Brantford have been arrested and charged following a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Burford.
BURFORD - Three people from Brantford have been arrested and charged following a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Burford.
OPP received several complaints after a video was posted online, showing animal cruelty in Burford. According to police, someone had posted a video of the trio driving out of the City of Brantford into Burford with a possum that they had trapped.
The video does eventually show the possum being killed.
Police say they have identified the involved parties and have charged them with the following offences.
Romaine Lee 30-years-old of the City of Brantford has been charged with:
Cruelty to Animals Contrary to Section 445.1(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Possession of a Firearm while prohibited Contrary to Section 117.01 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Causing wildlife unnecessary suffering Contrary to Section 31 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Transporting Wildlife unlawfully Contrary to Section 56 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Jade Martins 25-years-old of the City of Brantford has been charged with:
Cruelty to Animals Contrary to Section 445.1(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Causing wildlife unnecessary suffering Contrary to Section 31 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Transporting Wildlife unlawfully Contrary to Section 56 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Kaius Fagan 20-years-old of the City of Brantford has been charged with:
Cruelty to Animals Contrary to Section 445.1(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Causing wildlife unnecessary suffering Contrary to Section 31 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Transporting Wildlife unlawfully Contrary to Section 56 of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
All the involved parties will appear in Brantford Court at a later date to answer to their charges.
