You will soon be able to buy your poppy and honour the men and women who have fought for our freedom.
It's time to wear a poppy in honour of all the brave men and women who have fought and are fighting for our country.
Colour Sergeant for the Branch 55 Legion in Woodstock Mike Pritchard says starting tomorrow you will be able to find the poppy boxes in stores. "Through the day we have people standing at the stores doing the canvassing and like I said we have the boxes being distributing to the various stores in the city."
Pritchard says the donations support a very worthwhile cause. "It will go toward the veterans and their families for support. A lot of the time we have veterans that are in monetary needs, or medical needs that they don't have the funds for. So they'll contact the poppy campaign chairman and then they'll assist them with any hard times they've run into."
Usually they collect over $30 000 from the boxes, but according to Pritchard in recent years that support has really grown. "Oh yes, we see a tremendous support. Last year we received over $45 000 from the people here in Woodstock itself. Every year it gets greater and greater and it's good to see people recognize the importance of remembrance."
