A developer is looking to build a new apartment building on Norwich Ave in Woodstock. City Council is going to be asked on Thursday to sell some vacant land behind the property.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is going to be asked to sell some vacant land on Norwich Ave.
A developer is looking to build a multi residential apartment building in the city. Mayor Trevor Birtch says the City has been working with developer.
"The City has been working with a developer who has purchased properties along Norwich Ave, looking to create a new residential development. The City of Woodstock has a portion of land behind those properties that is landlocked, it was held originally, in case a future road was needed in that area and those plans of course have changed. This developer would like to purchase a portion of that unused city land at fair market value to get started with the application process for his new development."
Birtch says the developer wants to build an apartment building.
"This individual is looking at having some commercial on the main floor and then having a multi residential apartment building."
The development is good news for Woodstock, says Birtch.
"These are all positive steps in the Friendly City, when we can see pieces of land that have been underutilized put to good use and especially when we know that there are many individuals that are looking for different housing needs right now."
Council will vote on the decision on Thursday night. The land is located to the rear of 458 and 462 Norwich Ave in the City of Woodstock.
