Premier Ford says the Province is going to be coming out with a plan in the next couple of weeks encouraging manufacturers to start including Made in Canada Labels on all of their products.
ONTARIO - The Premier of Ontario is encouraging everyone to support local businesses right now.
Doug Ford says it is has never been more important for us to buy Canadian and made in Canada products. He says even a 10 percent increase in made in Canada sales would mean Billions of dollars.
Ford is encouraging manufacturing companies to start promoting the fact that they are made in Canada.
"Let's buy Canadian, Made in Canada and I am going to get on the on the line over the next couple of weeks with the Retail Association, with the manufacturers of foods and other goods, let's promote Made in Canada. I don't see it, when you look at a cereal box, it might be manufactured here, it might be from Niagara Falls but put it on the front and I guarantee it, your sales will go up, as sure as I'm standing here. We have great hand sanitizer companies and one, right on the front has the maple leaf and it says Made in Canada, I'm buying that one over one being shipped in from another country. We support each other, we have the population, 14.5 million people, plus the rest of the country, we are an economic powerhouse here in Ontario."
Ford says that is one thing he has always been impressed with in the United States.
"Until I was Premier, I didn't realize the economic powerhouse Ontario is around North America. We can manufacture absolutely anything. You know who does a good job of this, I'll be frank, is down in the US. I always see on their products, Made in USA, a shoutout to the manufacturers, let's start putting Made in Canada, because I know the consumers, if we switch the buying of even 10 percent, that is billions of dollars."
Ford says he wants to see this happen right away.
"Right now we are doing $390 billion in trade, two way trade with the United States, we are doing $45 billion with China, which $42 Billion we are importing from China and we are only exporting $3 Billion. Made in Canada and I know if we put Made in Canada on the shelf and they are two identical products and we are competitive, Canadians, Ontarians are going to buy and support the Made in Canada. We are going to be rolling out this plan over the next few weeks and I am really going to be pushing Made in Canada."
Ford says we are the best in the world.
"We can compete and kick anyone's butt in the world, when it comes to products that we manufacture here, from technology, to A.I, I get excited just talking about it, we can do it and we are the best, anywhere in the world, right here in Ontario."
