The Woodstock Fire Department is going to shine a light on cooking safety this Fire Prevention Week.
WOODSTOCK - Members of the Woodstock Fire Department will be out and about over the next few days for Fire Prevention Week.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says they're going to partner up with a local pizzeria again today and on Thursday. She says you might find a firefighter on your doorstep if you order pizza for dinner.
"If we show up at your house and you have working smoke alarms, your pizza will be on us. If you don't, then we will provide you with the tools you need to make sure you are in compliance with the Fire Code."
She says the theme of this year's campaign is Pay Attention to Fire Prevention: Cooking Safety Starts With You.
"Cooking fires across the nation are actually 80 percent of all fires. It's not our top cause, but it's close to the top. Smoking is our number one cause in Woodstock so far, but we constantly have cooking fires as well."
The Woodstock Fire Department will also be visiting local schools this week in order to educate kids about fire safety. You can keep up to date with all of the department's Fire Prevention Week activities by visiting their Facebook page.
