Oxford County's Rainbow Coalition is extending an invitation to all residents for their upcoming Pride Picnic in the Park
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County's Rainbow Coalition is extending an invitation to all residents for their upcoming Pride Picnic in the Park.
Recognizing and understanding what the coalition is all about is the purpose for the gathering that will directly impact the LGBT community locally. Chair Person of Oxford County Rainbow Coalition, Gayle Milne, spoke to Heart FM as to what is expected at the event. "This is our second annual Pride Picnic and it will be at Southside Park in the Boathouse here in Woodstock. What we will be doing is having snacks, and it is a family friendly event, and just an opportunity for the community to get together to celebrate our LGBT community in Oxford."
The rainbow flags are set to fly at Southside Park on June 19th and Milne knows this will be the best way for everyone to get to know each other. "It is just an opportunity to get to know each other as well and just build that sense of community here. It is nice for people to not have to travel that they can actually participate in a pride event of some kind in our own community, although it is a small event we are hoping for it to be bigger than last year."
Milne adds you won't be able to miss the group once you see the flags flying down at Southside Park on Friday afternoon. "The idea of the rainbow theme when you are driving up to the park you may notice some flags flying on the boathouse, that is kind of a symbol for LGBT pride is the rainbow symbol, so it is just an idea that pride of the symbol being present and it is very fun and celebratory." The family friendly event will run from 3-6 with the colourful picnic set to feature games in an attempt to get their voices heard while also being able to stay local.
