A program that helps police quickly track Alzheimer patients and others who tend to wander off will soon be making its way to Oxford County. Oxford OPP Commander Tim Clarke says the Project Lifesaver program uses tracking equipment that helps local police begin to look for the missing person before the full search team shows up to the location. He says the devises look very similar to a wrist watch which can be worn on either the wrist or ankle with each devise having its own frequency so even if many people in the area have the devices, police can concentrate on just the missing person. Clarke says the devises work while walking, in vehicles, helicopters and will even transmit in up to twenty feet of water. The equipment purchase was made possible by a five thousand dollar donation from the Tillsonburg Lioness. The program has already been in operation for a few years in neighbouring Norfolk County.
