Pushing Pause On Permit

A water taking application for Carmeuse Lime could be hitting a few bumps in the road.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council is looking to delay a water taking permit for Carmeuse Lime.

Carmeuse is looking to combine two permits that they already have and up the volume of water they can take out of the Quarry Ponds.

But Warden David Mayberry says the county is worried about the possible effects.

"The fact that they hadn't done any studies to see if this would have a detrimental effect on the County wells or private wells was the concern of Public Works. They brought it to Council saying 'we're concerned about this and we think they should do more studies on this' and council certainly agreed with that."

Mayberry says they will be sending a message to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

"The request from the County will be for them to not approve the expanded permit until the after the studies are done. We simply want to protect the people in the area so that they're not going to run short of water if you pump out too much water."
