Woodstock City council will help out with Relay for Life, which is being put on by the Canadian Cancer Society.
WOODSTOCK - The Canadian Cancer Society will be holding their 20th annual Relay for Life in the Friendly City.
Woodstock City council has been asked to help organizers with this event.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says they will contribute in a number of ways.
"Our Parks Department will help make sure that the grounds are in good shape, we'll have involvement from our auxiliary police and we'll make sure that the neighbourhood is aware of the event going on. And I'm sure that you'll also, if you're in attendance, you'll see many of city council there."
Live entertainment will also be on hand and the noise by-law has been extended. The location is near residential neighbourhoods and the organization will also provide a letter to residents advising them of the event in advance.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says while it is slated to be a fun event, it will also allow people to pay homage to someone they know who was lost to cancer.
"This event, of course, is a fundraiser for the Cancer Society for research and there is a lot of great activities to take place. There will be bands there, there will be speeches that will come from some of the individuals, very touching, but it also serves as a memorial for those that are still working through the grieving process of a family member or friend, or neighbour that has lost that battle with cancer. So seeing the tributes that'll be located around the route is something that many of those people, they'll have those special memories for a lifetime."
The Canadian Cancer Society has also asked for additional items including picnic tables, traffic cones, wooden barricades and folding tables and chairs.
The event celebrates cancer survivors and remembers those who were lost to cancer. Relay for Life has generated close to $4 million dollars in its 20 years in Woodstock and the funds raised from this event will go towards cancer research.
The fundraiser will be on June 14th, running from 6:00pm to 12:00am.
