The Tillsonburg Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society was another smashing success.
TILLSONBURG - The Tillsonburg Relay for Life fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society went off without a hitch.
There were 300 people at the event, including a 150 registered participants and the other half were survivors and volunteers.
Janis Cunningham, Manager at the Oxford County Canadian Cancer Society says the event went very well.
"We raised approximately $70,000. We still have funds coming in, they can come in for another month yet, so that total will change."
The initial goal was $80,000, which they hope to receive by the end of June.
Cunningham says a few events throughout the night really stuck out.
"The survivor victory lap is always very emotional, very inspiring to fight back against cancer so that we can create more survivors. Between that and the luminaries at night they are both so powerful and such a sight to be part of."
Cunningham says the funds they receive supports the society in all that they do.
"Be it the research we fund or the support we provide to people living in our communities. Getting them to their treatments or support them with the information or the other support programs we have."
There will be two more Relay for Life events in Oxford County this month, including in Woodstock and Ingersoll.
