TILLSONBURG - The Canadian Cancer Society is kicking off the Relay for Life events in Oxford County this Saturday in Tillsonburg.
This year they are switching things up a bit and making it a daytime event which will run from 11 a.m to 11 p.m. Community Fundraising Specialist Liz Wismer-Van Meer tells Heart FM "the Opening ceremonies start at 11 a.m. and things will start with the Survivors Lap and then everyone else will join in after, we also have live entertainment happening all day to keep people going, we have got some fun theme laps people will participate in, of course we keep our participants well fed and will provide lunch and dinner, we also have some fun activities for the kids and we will also be doing the luminary ceremony once again. The luminary ceremony is where we light candles in honour of our survivors and as a memory for those who have lost their battle with cancer."
Everyone who signs up will take turns running and walking the track over the course of 12 hours with all of the funds raised going towards Cancer Research. They will also be celebrating the survivors in attendance and things tend to get pretty emotional at times. It's all happening at the Annandale Public School and this year they are hoping to raise $121,000. If you would like to sign up for the event you can do so online at http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFL_CAN_odd_?fr_id=17782&pg=entry or you can also sign up at the RBC bank in Tillsonburg or show up the day of.
Tillsonburg starts things off in Oxford and they will have Relay's happening in Woodstock on June 13th and then in Ingersoll on June 20th.
