Live jousting, fire eating and stage performances. That's the vision behind a Renaissance Festival that could be launched in the Friendly City later this year. The event is being planned for the June 14th-16th weekend at the Woodstock Fairgrounds. It's been a number of years since there has been this kind of event hosted in southern Ontario. Director Greg Schuurman says it used to be a big draw. "The Ontario Renaissance Festival that was in Milton closed down about 8 years ago, it was on for 7 weekends and it was attracting 250,000 visitors. I just wanted to bring it back, see what happens and I know that I will be attracting people from as far as Toronto, up to Sarnia and Windsor". But to make the event happen, Schuurman is seeking community sponsors. It will take $100,000 to put on the event. Click here to visit their website for more details on the planning of the event.
