Still hope for a Santa Claus parade in Woodstock this year as council will vote on a motion this Thursday.
WOODSTOCK - It looks like Santa Claus could be making an appearance in Woodstock after all.
Woodstock City council will be asked to add money to the base budget, in order to add the Santa Claus Parade to the list of events operated by the City.
The Woodstock Santa Claus parade was cancelled for 2021 in the summer due to concerns around the pandemic and the uncertainty of restrictions.
Last week the Ford Government removed all restrictions for outdoor gatherings, giving the green light for Santa Clause parades and Remembrance Day ceremonies.
The update to council on Thursday will ask if the Santa Claus parade should be community based with a volunteer committee or if the City should assume responsibility from top to bottom, similar to the Victoria Day Parade.
The Lighting of the Lights in Museum Square which typically kicks off the holiday season is a go this year. It is happening on Friday November 19th.
The potential for a Santa Claus parade in Woodstock is still up in the air, however it could be approved by council on Thursday night. What is not certain right now, is how much it would cost to plan a parade on short notice.
We will have more details following Thursday's Council meeting.
