"Requiring that hospital workers be vaccinated is an evidence-based policy that protects Ontarians."
The Science advisory table is recommending the Province implement a vaccine mandate for all hospital workers and contractors.
Last week, Premier Doug Ford asked for input from all of the hospital CEO's, the science advisory table and other experts on whether or not the Province should implement a mandate for all hospital workers. Currently about 85% of hospital workers in Ontario are fully vaccinated.
Ford explained his reasoning for not implementing a province wide mandate for hospitals during a press conference last week.
"Let me be clear, every hospital worker should be vaccinated and we encourage all of them to get vaccinated and the vast majority already have, but at a time, when our doctors and nurses are already stretched to the limits, especially in northern and rural areas, we can't afford to lose qualified staff."
The Ontario Science Table has written the Premier a letter stating that "Requiring that hospital workers be vaccinated is an evidence-based policy that protects Ontarians."
