Shapton Eyeing 2022

Shawn Shapton reflects on his election campaign with an eye on 2022.

The runner up in the Woodstock Mayoral election is already thinking about 2022.

Shawn Shapton lost his bid for the Mayor's seat to Trevor Birtch last Monday night by about 2000 votes. He wanted to congratulate everyone who won last Monday, including his opponent Trevor Birtch.

"We were disappointed but at the end of the day we feel that we ran a really good campaign. More than anything a huge congratulations to all those who were successful, it looks like they will have a great council. A lot of respect for Trevor Birtch, who ran a great campaign as well and came out on top, so nothing but respect for everyone who put there name forward, it's a lot of work and I wish everyone in this city nothing but the best."

Shapton says he plans on staying active over the next four years.

"I just want to thank all of the constituents and everyone who came out and voted, it's such an important time and an important job and please know that there is absolutely no hard feelings, I respect the voters and their decision and I look forward to taking another run at this in 2022."

Shapton says he thoroughly enjoyed his time on council and it is something he is going to miss greatly.

"More than anything I have enjoyed representing the people, those that felt like their voice was lost, I sort of came to this table with a strong voice at times to help those people out but in general, I am going to miss working with the City, we are very fortunate to have great staff and great constituents who are absolutely incredible. I will miss it all greatly, but I look forward to coming back in 2022."
