The Americans won the gold medal final with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Canadians.
ITALY - Ella Shelton will bring a silver medal home to Oxford County.
The Canadian women's hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss to the U-S in overtime during the gold medal game at the Milan Cortina Olympics yesterday.
Shelton, a Folden's native, found herself in the penalty box for hooking at the end of the first period.
Canada was leading 1-0 for a good portion of the game, after Kristen O'Neill scored a shorthanded goal at the end of the second period. However, Hilary Knight was able to tie the game in the third period, and Megan Kellar scored in overtime to secure the victory for the Americans.
This brings the Team Canada medal count to 15 with four gold, five silver, and six bronze.
The Canadian men's hockey team will try to secure a spot in their gold medal game when they face Finland in the semifinals today. That matchup should begin at 10:40 a.m. Eastern.
