Tillsonburg residents will have plenty of options for town council on October 22nd.
TILLSONBURG - 12 people are vying for 6 seats on Tillsonburg council.
Sherry Hamilton is one of the new candidates looking to represent the Town. She explains why she wanted to get into municipal politics.
"I have lived in Tillsonburg for 12 years, I have been in Oxford County for longer and I started getting an interest in the political field here in Tillsonburg last Fall, something had come to council that I wasn't entirely in agreement with. At that point I decided that we have to from time to time to step forward and create a voice for the people and I decided then to attend all of the council meetings in preparation to run for council this year."
Hamilton has been campaigning around town going door to door. She has concerns about infrastructure and wants the Town to maintain and protect the assets they do have.
"I think we need to get back to basics in Tillsonburg, we have a fantastic town that is very unique in Southern Ontario but I do have my concerns about the safety of our community and the way society is going. I have many concerns about infrastructure and that are we actually taking care of our town and doing the repairs and maintenance needed to protect the assets that we have. I have heard a lot in my travels in the last couple of weeks going door to door that people are concerned about Tillsonburg Hydro, they don't want to see anybody else take over our hydro."
Hamilton says she is also concerned about our working families in Tillsonburg and our vulnerable seniors.
