The West Region OPP has some tips for the shoppers out there scrambling to buy last-minute gifts for their loved ones.
OXFORD COUNTY - Christmas is only a few days away, so lots of last-minute shoppers have been hitting up local stores in order to buy the perfect last gifts for their loved ones.
This is also a busy time of the year for thieves, so the West Region OPP has some tips to make sure you don't become a victim this holiday season.
It's recommended that you use debit and credit cards for your purchases instead of using cash. You should also protect and shield your pin number whenever you use your cards.
If you need to get some cash, make sure you use a recognized banking machine. Police say thieves have been known to use card skimming devices on stand-alone ATMs.
Carrying around lots of shopping bags can make you a target, so the OPP recommends stopping by your vehicle to unload gifts into the trunk before you continue shopping. You should also lock your vehicle before leaving it and it should be parked in a well-lit area. The windows should also be rolled up.
Lastly, make sure that your wallet and/or purse is secure whenever you leave the house.
