The SIU has cleared a Norfolk County collision investigation that started with a stolen vehicle in Delhi.
DELHI - The Special Investigations Unit has cleared an investigation after a 28 year old man suffered serious injuries in Simcoe.
Last month the Norfolk OPP responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in Delhi. Police tried to stop the vehicle in Simcoe, but the driver did not stop and the officer called off the pursuit for safety reasons. About a half an hour later the car hit the ditch at the intersection of County Roads 23 and 45, causing the vehicle to go airborne. It rolled several times before landing in the ditch.
The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. At the time of the collision, no police cruiser was remotely near the vehicle, and the first officer arrived on scene more than 10 minutes later.
SIU Director Loparco says this cases has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Police.
"The evidence is clear that no police officer caused or contributed to the collision involving the man. As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident."
