WOODSTOCK - SixThirtyNine is celebrating their 15th anniversary in Woodstock on Saturday.
The family owned business has been serving residents at their restaurant on Peel Street since June 2005. Head Chef and co-owner Eric Boyar started the restaurant with his mom Pauline. Eric is still the head chef and the restaurant is now owned by him and his wife Jennifer Boyar.
Jennifer Boyar says things haven't changed a whole lot.
"Eric's philosophy has remained the same, to use the bounty of local products that we have available, specifically in Oxford County to provide, delicious, nutritious meals for anyone. We offer things from our takeout lunches, to dinners, and we have started offering meal kits, we are really expanding what we can do and giving back to the community."
SixThirtyNine was hit hard by the pandemic, as was all small restaurants and businesses. They were faced with some challenges, and managed to persevere by getting creative. Boyar explains how they have been paying the bills these last few months.
"We designed a bread and soup delivery program, that also includes some meal kits. We had great results, great success and we owe it all, quite literally to the people of Oxford County. What we did, we would sell them for a couple of days and then deliver on Saturday. Quite honestly, what we will be doing is still offering those meal kits, because it is good healthy nutritious food, it offers a little bit of a break from cooking, which I am sure we have all cooked a lot during this pandemic."
The restaurant has been approved for patios and are hoping to open in early July with a few tables and takeout.
They will be celebrating their 15th anniversary on Saturday and will have a patio set up and offering Arancini's there most popular appetizers for takeout and a few spots to sit. They will be selling 6 Arancini's for $12 and it will be cash only. You can find more information about SixThirtyNine online here.
