South-West Oxford has a candidate in Ward 3 for the upcoming municipal election.
SWOX - A familiar face has decided to run for council in South-West Oxford.
William Van Lagen opened Carver Cabinetry in Norwich about 21 years ago. He decided to try his hand at municipal politics in recent years, running for the Ward 2 council seat there in 2022 and again during the byelection in 2023.
Van Lagen decided to move to a quieter area in South-West Oxford about 2.5 years ago. He's decided to run for council once again, this time looking to represent Ward 3 in his new hometown.
"I have new eyes, and it's good to have new eyes in a township. I ran a business, and I'm semi-retiring, so it's time to give back to the community."
If he's elected this fall, he would like to bring a business perspective to the township council.
"I started a business from scratch, so I have learned how to work with employees, get the best out of them and make the customers happy. The township is basically the same thing, it's a big business that we have to get everything we can possible out of the money we have and make the people happy."
Van Lagen is also married with six children and nine grandchildren.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
