SOUTH-WEST OXFORD TOWNSHIP - Anyone who can legally vote in South-West Oxford can now apply to be a township councillor for eight months.
Council is looking for a new representative for Ward 1, after Councillor Anne Vanhoucke unexpectedly passed away this past December.
Mayor David Mayberry says anyone interested in upholding her legacy must submit an application to the Clerk's Office before 4pm next Wednesday.
"Council will review all the applications, and at that point anyone that would like to come to council and make a presentation on why they think they'd be a good candidate will have that opportunity. After that council will make a decision on which person will have the opportunity to serve on council."
Mayberry adds the selected individual will start in April and hold the position until the end of November, after the fall election.
"Somebody simply who is interested in trying council for a short period to see do I like this or not, does it fit with my style of thinking and all of that sort of stuff. I would encourage people to put their name in."
