Some of the best young baseball players in the country are in Woodstock for the 13U National Championship.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock is hosting the 13U National Baseball Championships this week.
Brent Peltola, the Vice President of the Woodstock Minor Baseball Association, says some of the best young baseball players in the country will face off in Southside Park.
"We have teams from every province except Saskatchewan. Ontario and Quebec each have two entries and Ontario in addition has the host entry, so we have 12 teams in total."
The tournament will kick off with a welcome barbeque in Southside Park this evening. Hazel Mae and Kevin Barker from Sportsnet will be on-site to interview some of the young players.
Once the homerun derby wraps up, there will be a men's slo-pitch homerun derby to close out the evening.
All of the tournament games will begin at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow in Southside Park. Games will continue throughout the day, but Peltola says there will be a break in the action for the official opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
"We will do a parade onto the field, we will have some remarks from a number of different officials, and Woodstock and New Brunswick play at 7:00 p.m. in the opening game."
