Southwestern Public Health Confirms 26 New Cases of COVID-19 This Morning

St. Thomas now has 73 active cases as an outbreak continues amongst the homeless population.

OXFORD/ST.THOMAS/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health Unit confirmed 26 new cases of COVID-19 this morning and 25 resolved cases. 

This brings our total number of ongoing cases to 226. You can find a complete breakdown of the numbers, based on location here.

Norwich Township - 13

South-West Oxford - 7

Zorra - 4

Blandford-Blenheim - 2

East-Zorra Tavistock - 2

St. Thomas - 73

Dutton/Dunwich - 9

Central Elgin - 7

Malahide - 4

Bayham - 4

Southwold - 3 

West Elgin - 2 

10 people are currently being treated for the virus in hospital, including 6 people in the ICU. 

The Health Unit says 85.2 percent of residents 12+ have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 83.1 percent have been fully vaccinated. The Health Unit is also dealing with an outbreak at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas where 10 residents and 8 staff members have tested positive for the virus. One resident has died from COVID-19 during the outbreak.
