A very toxic batch of blue fentanyl is currently circulating in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health has put out an alert about blue Fentanyl that is circulating in Oxford County.
This new batch of Fentanyl is very toxic and looks like blue pool or billboard chalk. We reported yesterday that police found blue Fentanyl while executing a search warrant at a home in Ingersoll.
Manager with Southwestern Public Health Joanne Andrews says this new batch seems to have some serious side effects.
"It is resulting in some concerning side effects, people are complaining about dropping after they have used this substance and then also having nausea, vomiting and diarrhrea."
Andrews says the risk of an overdose is the ultimate concern with this drug.
"So the side effect of someone dropping is a concern, because that could indicate an overdose. So there is a number of different symptoms that could indicate an overdose, one of them is loss of consciousness, other symptoms could be that they are not breathing normally, gasping for breath or snoring. Sometimes speech could be slurred, they are hard to wake up and their fingernails or lips appear to be blue."
In the case of an overdose, call 9-1-1, administer Naloxone if the overdose was caused by an opioid and stay with the person until paramedics arrive. If you are using these substances, make sure you don't use it alone, start with a small amount first, make sure you have Naloxone on hand and avoid mixing substances.
