Spring Maintenance Underway in Brant County

Staff and contractors are working diligently to take care of public spaces including parks, sports fields, cemeteries and roadsides, making sure they are ready for when the emergency orders are lifted.

BRANT COUNTY - Spring maintenance is underway at the County of Brant.

Staff and contractors are working diligently to take care of public spaces including parks, sports fields, cemeteries and roadsides.

General Manager of Community and Protective Services Cindy Stevenson says they want these spaces ready to go when the emergency orders are lifted.

“Throughout the COVID-19 health emergency, we will continue to care for public spaces in the County of Brant. It is important to protect the County’s public spaces and uphold safety and sanitation practices. As well, we want to preserve County assets such as ball diamonds to ensure they are viable when we are able to re-open for public use. However, these activities will be done with several modifications to ensure the health and well-being of the community and staff.”

Due to the COVID-19 health emergency, County staff and contractors are required to practice physical distancing while working. As well, only one employee per maintenance vehicle is permitted (as much as practical). Thorough cleaning practices are in place for vehicles and equipment.

Stevenson says spring maintenance activities include lawn cutting, rolling, and clearing yard and garden debris, and aeration.

“We want to ensure that properties remain safe, property standards are met and that grass is maintained to help prevent ticks and mosquitoes in tall grass and standing water.”

Additional trail maintenance will also occur as trails are being frequently used by the public.

Landscaping projects for aesthetic purposes will not be permitted. This includes the spring planting of trees and flower gardens.

Residents are reminded that playgrounds, skate parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, sports fields, community gardens, the Simply Grand Dog Park and the golf disc course remain closed until further notice in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19. As well, you must practice physical distancing when using County trails and public spaces.
