A man has been added to the Woodstock Sports Wall of Fame for his dedication to sport and willingness to lend a hand.
WOODSTOCK - The brand new interactive Woodstock Sports Wall of Fame is now up and running at the Woodstock Community Complex.
The official ceremony was on Saturday and it featured a surprise entrant. Mark Shadenburg was inducted in the Honourable Recognition category. Shadenburg wasn't nominated for his athletic prowess, but instead for his work promoting local sports in the community. He tells Heart FM why he is always willing to lend a helping hand.
"It's fair to say that I am very proud of my community. I've been a member of the Woodstock community for all of my 50 years now already. I think whether it's sports or other things going on in the community - I even, for example, follow the City council meeting agendas online. I will have to add however that I am a full time real estate agent so it's also very important to kind of keep tabs of what is going on in the organization of the City of Woodstock, whether it be sports or anything along those lines and to do my part to make the City of Woodstock as great as it is."
He formerly served as the sports reporter for the local paper and has stayed active in the community helping out wherever he can. Shadenburg was actually MC'ing the event and tells Heart FM he had no idea this honour was coming.
"Boy it was very humbling, I had no idea whatsoever. It was a big surprise both from the City of Woodstock and city council knew about it, so did the recreation advisory committee, and my wife and I must say it was a big surprise."
He was really happy to share this moment with his family including wife Nicole and children Spencer and Maeghan. Here is the list of the other inductees at the ceremony on Saturday.
