SWOX CAO's Life Saved by Defibriallator, By-Standers

Three Mount Elgin residents are being honoured tonight for their life saving actions. Earlier this summer, they were able to use the defibrillator at the Mount Elgin Community Centre, on South West Oxford's CAO, Mary Ellen Greb, who suffered a heart failure at a meeting. Greb says she has no recollection of what happened. "I felt like my hearing started to go, and I tried to open my mouth to say there was something wrong, and that was the last thing I remember...until people were patting my hand and saying my name after the incident had happened." Volunteers at the meeting, came to the aid of Mary Ellen, applying the defibrillator that was installed at the Community Centre 2-years ago. Two shocks later, Mary Ellen came back to consciousness. She says the defibrillator program is one that not only allowed her to live, but to witness the birth of her grandson just weeks later. "These machines are helping people to live." Tonight, Dawne Fewster, Dave Lucas and Marg Green will receive a special certificate for their lifesaving action. There's also expected to be an announcement in the near future of two new defibrillators for the township, one at the South-West-Oxford municipal hall, and one at the Brownsville Community Hall.
