The community showed their support for United Way Oxford's Tampon Tuesday.
WOODSTOCK - It was a successful night for United Way Oxford's Tampon Tuesday.
The event saw the public donate over 175 boxes of feminine hygiene products this past Tuesday evening.
Executive Director of United Way Oxford, Kelly Gilson says they had a great turnout, which helped them collect a number of products benefiting Domestic Abuse Services of Oxford (D.A.S.O).
"We had a great turnout, we actually had lots of fun. But most importantly, we were able to gather a tremendous amount of feminine hygiene products that people brought in through donations that we can now share with a variety of organizations across our community, helping women and young women."
Gilson adds there were also some cash donations.
She says there are benefits to attending these types of events.
"It's got many benefits. One, it has people talking, which is wonderful because it's certainly something that we should talk about and shouldn't be ashamed of talking about so it brings awareness to an issue. But it also is something that people can have fun with. A lot of the people that attended the event did so on behalf of their workplace, so they did little drives at their workplace, they had some fun with it and then were able to share what they gathered. So I think there are many benefits from the program, from the promotion."
The collection drive was put on by United Way Oxford's GenNext committee, which was hosted at Kelseys Original Roadhouse.
The feminine hygiene products will be donated to help local women in the community.
