INGERSOLL - A teenager from Ingersoll did her country and Oxford County proud at the Pan American Games.
Hillary Elliott competed in the Modern Pentathlon and finished 16th overall. Elliott had a grueling day of fencing, swimming, horse show jumping, running, and shooting in front of sold out crowds and family and friends at the her competition in Scarborough.
Elliott stopped by the Heart FM studios and says it was an honour to represent her country and talked about performing on home soil. "Usually theres big crowds, but having my whole family there and friends, it was really nerve racking, I couldn't even look at them, I just tried to look away and focus and pretend that they weren't there but still knowing that they were and cheering for me."
Hillary was hoping for a top five finish at the games so she could qualify for the Olympics. She will continue her training and will travel across the globe for some upcoming competitions as she try's to qualify for the 2016 and 2020 games.
She is looking for some corporate help locally and needs sponsors to help her reach her dream of representing Canada and Oxford County at the Olympics. Training does cost a lot of money and the athletes are not paid. Elliott does have a go fund me page set up at http://www.gofundme.com/yh6y5w. If you donate as a local business there is advertising opportunity available to you through social media, posters, on her swag items as well as any other interviews or recognition you have in mind. Elliott has already gotten some help from the Independent Grocery Store.
