The weekend of July 10-12 Ingersoll will welcome performers from around the world for the annual festival
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll is prepared for another event like no other in the town when hundreds flock to take in the Canterbury Folk Festival. The special weekend that is entering its 16th year has boasted a wide range of high profile performers and this year is no exception. Artistic Director of the Festival and Mayor of Ingersoll, Ted Comiskey, spoke to Heart FM to explain what is set to take part in the town the weekend of July 10-12th. "It starts off on Friday night with a pig roast, then music starts at 5 o'clock in Memorial Park. Our big name this year will be Garth Hudson who was actually with The Band. There are 40 crafter's, there is a kids section, there is a seniors section, it is a great festival for the whole family and the biggest thing it's free."
People from around the world have ventured to Ingersoll to take in the music and food the three day festival offers. Mayor Comiskey is pleased with how the festival has grown in just a decade and a half. "It started just on the Saturday, then after the years it has moved to the Friday, Saturday then after a few more years it has moved to the Friday, Saturday, Sunday and it has been going strong ever since. The town has just embraced it and it has turned into what we call a reunion, and that is different groups get together once a year and they do that at Canterbury, and it is just a fun time for all."
The free musical event of the year has Mayor Comiskey hoping to see you attend especially if you have never took part in the festivities before. "If you enjoy great music there is a variety, it has got talent. The people who help make it work are from all over the county because the only way it works is because of the fantastic volunteers we have and we can always use more." Comiskey urges those that do venture to Ingersoll for the festival will not be disappointed.
