5 new inductees were added to the Tillsonburg Sports Hall of Fame for their accomplishments as athletes and builders.
TILLSONBURG - Tillsonburg has 5 new inductees into their Sports Hall of Fame.
Over the weekend those who have made an impact in various sports were acknowledged in a special ceremony. Recreation Program and Services Manager for the Town of Tillsonburg, Janet McCurdy, explains the process involved in order to be inducted. "The Sports Hall of Fame was started in 2003 so this is actually our 8th that we've done. This was actually developed by the Recreation Advisory Committee. The purpose was to provide recognition to residents of Tillsonburg that were distinguished as being an exceptional athlete, member of an exceptional team, a builder of sport or a coach."
McCurdy provides a breakdown as to who the deserving inductees were."We had 3 individuals: Taylor Campbell for her national ranking in ringette, Christopher Mabee of figure skating, and Derek Partlo for his hockey. Our builders were Stan Moore - one of our first recreation directors - and Ches Sulkowski who was a builder of soccer in the community."
McCurdy says the next group of inductees won't be chosen until 2017. "I think it is the athletic recognition that we want, so it is the human touch in the community recognizing athletes who have gone nationally or provincially."
