The intersection of Oxford Road 20 and Quarter Town Line in Tillsonburg will now have vehicles stop in all directions
TILLSONBURG - An all-way stop has been placed in Tillsonburg.
The intersection of Oxford Road 20 and Quarter Town Line Road now will have vehicles come to a complete stop heading all directions to avoid future collisions. Supervisor of Roads Operations and Fleet, Scott Boughner, explains how the process went to get to this point. "We had studies done at the time about a year ago in 2014 it actually didn't meet the full warrants, and then in 2015 they came back with a resolution asking us to redo it again. At that time we did review it and did determine that enough of the warrants were met to have an all-way stop installed."
The new signs went up this morning following approval by Oxford County Council at the end of November, and Boughner discusses how an intersection receives an all-way stop. "Well at that intersection there is no poor visibility, one of the warrants is the number of collisions, and the other is the roadways have to be very high in traffic volume in order to warrant that, and those are the factors that we do use and look at."
Speeding and lack of attention were the two leading causes of incidents at the intersection, and Boughner talks about how effective they have been in the past, and about other projects that have took place in the county. "We have found that they are effective in circumstances where warrants are met and if there is any sight line issues. The ones for this year were in Southwest Oxford at the railway crossing on Prouse Road, we also reduced the speed limit and the speed limit reduction in the Norwich area, we had to also install an all-way stop at Oxford 13 and Oxford Road 18."
