A fraudster told them that they won the Readers Digest Sweepstakes.
TILLSONBURG - The Oxford OPP is warning the public after someone in Tillsonburg fell victim to a scam.
Police say someone called this person last week, claiming to be with the Readers Digest Sweepstakes.
They told the victim that they won the $5 million grand prize, $250,000 cash, and a new pickup truck. The catch was, they had to purchase a prepaid MasterCard to pay the tax.
When the victim tried to question this person, they e-mailed some documents to try to back up their claims.
The victim lost $900 in the end and the OPP would like to remind everyone that a legitimate business, charity, or organization would never ask for payment in gift cards.
