Toyota Factories Face Challenges Amid Ambassador Bridge Blockade

UPDATE: Toyota has reached out to Heart FM to say they expect disruptions to last throughout the weekend and the team is working diligently to minimize the impact on production.

WOODSTOCK - Production has been impacted at the three Toyota plants in Ontario due to the protests and blockades at the Ambassador Bridge from Windsor to Detroit.

Manager of Corporate Communications Michael Bouliane issued the following statement on behalf of the company.

"Due to a number of supply chain, severe weather and COVID related challenges, Toyota continues to face shortages affecting production at our North American plants. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to minimize the impact on production. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky have recently been impacted by issues related to the Ambassador Bridge blockade. We expect disruptions through the weekend, and we’ll continue to make adjustments as needed. While the situation is fluid and changes frequently, we do not anticipate any impact to employment at this time."

The three Canadian factories, two in Cambridge and the one here in Woodstock have over 8,000 local employees.

Bouliane says production has been paused on all three lines in Canada.

The blockade at the Ambassador Bridge is now on day 4. Ford meanwhile is running plants in Oakville and Windsor at reduced capacity today.
