Girls in Grade 6 and 7 will be able to stop by St. Mary's High School tomorrow night if they're interested in trying out for the U12/U13 Oxford Attack girls basketball team.
WOODSTOCK - The U12/U13 Oxford Attack girls basketball team is getting ready for the upcoming season.
Head Coach Colin Halward says they had a great season last year.
"We had nine girls try out and all nine girls made the team. They went to provincials and won the silver medal in Ottawa which was a great experience for those girls. However, this year due to some movement and young ladies moving with their parents to different places, we are short a number of bodies to make a full roster."
Halward says six girls will be returning to the team this year, so they need three new players.
Girls in Grades 6 and 7 will be able to stop by St. Mary's High School in Woodstock for the first tryout session tomorrow night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tryouts are also scheduled this Thursday and next Tuesday (September 27th), also from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There is no fee required to tryout for the team.
Once the team roster is finalized, Halward says they will meet twice a week.
"We practice from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. Games are about one weekend per month on either Saturday or Sunday and there is a sprinkle of a tournament here and there."
The practice sessions will take place at St. Mary's High School.
Halward says the official season will begin during the first weekend of November, but he will try to arrange a few local exhibition games for the team before that.
The girls who make the team will have Christmas, New Years and March Break off. Halward says provincials take place in late April.
