A magnitude 8.8 earthquake rattled Russia last night.
UPDATE (9:30 a.m.) - The tsunami advisories has been cancelled in British Columbia.

BRITISH COLUMBIA - One of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded triggered tsunami warnings and alerts across the Pacific.
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake hit the coast of southeastern Russia last night, creating small tsunami waves in Alaska, Hawaii and Japan. No substantial damage has been reported so far.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported waves of 27 centimetres at Winter Harbour in British Columbia this morning. Waves of up to 30 centimetres were supposed to hit the Vancouver island community of Tofino last night, but they hit a maximum height of 21 centimetres in the end.
A tsunami advisory remains in effect for both of those areas, with residents being encouraged to stay away from beaches and shorelines.
