TVDSB Head Takes Leave of Absence

Mark Fisher has been the Director of Education for the Thames Valley District School Board since September 2019.

TVDSB - The Director of Education for the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) has taken a leave of absence.

Thames Valley made the announcement earlier today, adding that the Board of Trustees will appoint an Acting Director of Education who will hold the position until an Interim Director of Education is hired.

Board Chair Beth Mai said normal day-to-day operations would resume while this process takes place.

"The Board is committed to ensuring that staff, students and families are supported during this time and we thank them for their patience."

This comes after the London Free Press broke the news, that 18 board executives spent two nights at the hotel inside Rogers Centre in Toronto for a staff retreat despite a $7.6-million budget deficit. Mark Fisher stated that these trips were industry standard but they would never happen again.

The school board also proposed $11-million in funding cuts recently. Craig Smith, the Thames Valley Teacher Local President, told Heart FM that this would impact classrooms, schools, support for teacher programs, and support for students, especially in the special education program.
