OXFORD COUNTY - United Way Oxford is encouraging everyone to donate to a local cause today in honour of Giving Tuesday.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says Giving Tuesday is always on the Tuesday after the American Thanksgiving weekend.
"Giving Tuesday started as a result of trying to do something positive for the community following what was initially Black Friday, then it became Cyber Monday and I think now we have Small Business Saturday in there as well. All of which have a great and important role on businesses, but this (Giving Tuesday) is about giving back and working and supporting your community."
Gilson says it's important to give back to your community, especially around this time of the year.
"At this time of the Christmas and holiday season when people are starting to think about all of the things that go with that recognize that there are individuals in need, there are organizations in need and if you are able to make a donation, every dollar makes a difference."
United Way Oxford will be shining a light on lots of different organizations and charities on its social media pages today in order to help raise awareness.
