New exhibitions are coming to the Woodstock Art Gallery this fall.
WOODSTOCK - A new season of exhibitions are being displayed at the Woodstock Art Gallery.
An open house will be held on October 19th, and six exhibitions will be on display. Below is a list of the exhibitions and a description of their meaning.
- Betty McArthur: Present in the Moment illustrates the artistic career of Betty McArthur and highlights her contributions to the cultural fabric of Woodstock and Oxford County, with work from the gallery’s permanent collection and pieces borrowed from private collectors.
- Florence Carlyle: In the Space Between examines the artist’s lesser-known work as a writer. The exhibition and accompanying chapbook bring together Carlyle’s letters, published works and paintings with a foreword and poetry by Emily De Angelis.
- Alice Amelia Innes traces the artist’s life and work with three paintings from the Gallery’s permanent collection and research from the Oxford County Library.
- Delights: Grand National Fibre Art Exhibition is a national juried exhibition featuring fibre artists from across Canada. Inspired by the theme, “Delights,” each piece demonstrates a range of skills and techniques including quilting, fabric dyeing, embroidery and needle felting.
- Kodansha Manga Gallery showcases the intricacy of Japanese manga through reproductions of pen-and-ink story pages, full-colour paintings and digital illustrations from internationally acclaimed titles including Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Sailor Moon and Attack on Titan.
- Tri-County Wood Carvers features examples of recent work by members of this local wood carving club, highlighting both individual creations as well as two complex group projects inspired by the history of Oxford County.
You can visit the Art Gallery from 1 until 3 p.m., and you will also be able to partake in readings with Emily De Angelis, a wood carving demonstration from the Tri-County Carvers, a walk and talk of the Grand National Fibre Art Exhibition and a tour of Present in the Moment with curator Danielle Hoevenaars.
