Woodstock Father Proves His Son's Innocence in Child Pornography Case

Mario Spina hired a forensics investigator after his son was charged with child pornography almost two years ago. The charges have since been dropped.

WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock family had their lives turned upside down, after their 19-year-old was charged with child pornography related offences.

In an interview with Heart FM's Dan Henry this morning, Mario Spina told the story of how his son was charged back in February of 2022, and how he hired a forensic expert to prove his innocence.

Someone had hacked into his son's Snapchat account, which was linked to an old e-mail address that had not been used in quite some time.

Spina says a judge also determined that the Woodstock Police forensics investigator did not have the expert experience required for this type of investigation, which led to one charge being dropped and an acquittal on the other two.

"These are serious indictable offences. We support this fight, but nothing good came out of this fight against child pornography, a fight which we support. The only thing good is what we're doing on our behalf in informing the public so it doesn't happen to them and hopefully, the police learn from all of this."

Spina has this piece of advice to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else.

"Anything you're doing whether it's an app, online, or whatever it may be, make sure you use two-factor authentication as an added layer of security, particularly if someone is trying to access your account from another device. You should also use strong passwords and visit https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to check your e-mails to see if you have been compromised."
