The Legion is attempting to purchase the Unifor Hall on Beale Street
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Legion local 55 Branch is looking at buying the Unifor Hall on Beale Street.
A tentative deal has been reached to purchase the Hall from the local 636 Union and lease space back them. Part of the agreement is pending on the sale of the Legion on Brant Street to the Faithway Baptist Church and the closing date for both is on January 29th. Legion President Stan Whiston tells Heart FM why the Legion is ready to move.
"Well we needed to downsize, our current hall was larger than it needed to be for our current membership and the Unifor Hall seemed to be a reasonable alternative."
Union members also have to agree to the deal before it can go through and a number of other things need to happen as well including the approval from legion members. Whiston tells Heart FM for starters they still need to get approval from the Royal Command of the Royal Canadian Legion.
"They have a number of control procedures and we need to wait for that and one of the things we had to do in order to get that was to be able to tell them where we are going, so we started looking and people felt that the Unifor Hall was a suitable alternative."
