The city of Woodstock hopes to help parents make alternate arrangements for their children if elementary school teachers go on strike.
WOODSTOCK - Although the elementary school teachers are in phase one of job action, the City of Woodstock isn't taking any chances. Woodstock City Council has decided to offer day camps should the strike lead to the withdrawal of classroom services. Parks and Recreation staff will begin early training for day camps in order to give parents an option should school cut out early.
"This way we would be able to open up camp spaces for kids so they would have some place to go during the day," Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Woodstock Brian Connors said.
The camps could be ready to go as early as June 1st. Connors is hoping it won't get to the point, "Hopefully this is something that we don't use. This would come into effect if the elementary school teachers went out on strike and classes were cancelled."
Three locations would be offered for the day camps including the Art Gallery, museum or recreation facilities. The price would be on a per day basis that would vary camp to camp.
