A fraudulent web site has been renting homes to people in the City of Woodstock that are actually for sale.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is warning the public about a number of fraudulent property listing scams online.
How the scam works, is the scammers will take images of a house listed for sale online, and then post them for rent on various web sites. They usually offer a good rate and demand a security deposit prior to seeing the home. Victims of this scam are showing up to homes they believe to have rented.
All of the properties listed on www.prop2go.com for Woodstock Ontario addresses have been confirmed fraudulent and home owners have been notified.
Police are reminding everyone to be cautious of sending money electronically to people you do not know or have not met in person. Do not share personal information online to reduce risk of fraudulent activity or identity theft.
