The Woodstock Triathlon Club is hoping to get some funding from council to encourage kids to get up and get active.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Triathlon Club is trying to get more kids active in the community.
Head Coach and Membership Executive for the Club, Dave Jenkin, asked Woodstock City Council to assisting financially in an event for next year. "We're looking at trying to develop a kids duathlon event for next year, so we were just basically asking for councils support because that support would then lend itself to a better chance of getting government grants."
Getting the public out exercising is the purpose of the Club wanting to hold the event, and Jenkin explains why they are putting the focus on kids. "We hope that kids will be able to take part in this event on an annual basis. If they have fun and they are being active they cannote having fun to being active and they are more likely then to continue to do it lifelong." Similar to a triathlon, a duathlon consist of a running portion, followed by a segment on a bike, then it finishes with another run.
Jenkin provides what the next steps will be to make this come to life for 2016. "We will have to set out a guideline for how much money we are going to get in sponsorships, we're also going to be very active in trying to secure some community grants and trillium grants." Woodstock City Council has planned to look into the issue at a later date.
